Position Overview
We are seeking a talented Pixel Art Artist who can create high-quality 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit artworks for games. The ideal candidate has strong visual storytelling skills, understands retro aesthetics, and can produce backgrounds, characters, tilesets, UI elements, props, and animation frames with precision and creativity.
Key Responsibilities
Pixel Art Creation
- Produce detailed backgrounds, environments, and scenarios in multiple retro styles.
- Design characters, enemies, NPCs, and props with clean silhouettes and distinctive personality.
- Create tilesets, decorative assets, and world-building visual elements.
Animation
- Draw frame-by-frame character animations (idle, run, attack, special moves, etc.).
- Animate backgrounds, effects, particles, and environmental elements.
- Ensure smooth transitions and consistent animation timing across frame sets.
Art Production Pipeline
- Use Aseprite, Photoshop, and other production tools to create and optimize pixel assets.
- Prepare sprite sheets, animation frames, and export-ready assets for game engines.
- Work closely with developers to ensure assets integrate correctly into Unity, Godot, or custom engines.
Style & Quality Consistency
- Maintain coherent art direction across all assets.
- Understand limitations and advantages of 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit palettes and resolutions.
- Adapt to project-specific color palettes, tile sizes, and technical requirements.
Collaboration
- Work with game designers and developers to bring worlds, characters, and stories to life.
- Communicate visual ideas quickly through sketches, thumbnails, and rough passes.
- Participate in refinement loops and feedback sessions to polish the final art.
Qualifications & Skills
Required
- Strong portfolio demonstrating pixel art across 8-bit, 16-bit, and/or 32-bit styles.
- Proficiency with Aseprite, Photoshop, or similar pixel-art and animation tools.
- Experience creating sprite sheets, tilesets, character animations, and environment art.
- Understanding of color theory, shading techniques, and retro game aesthetics.
- Ability to work within resolution, palette, and tile-size constraints.
Preferred
- Experience with parallax backgrounds, FX animations, or VFX pixel art.
- Familiarity with Unity, Godot, or similar engines.
- Basic understanding of game design, level layout, or UI/UX in retro-style games.
- Knowledge of optimization for memory, tile usage, and sprite organization.
